Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Co-ordinator, Martin Griffiths, told the publication that the organisation faced the largest financial deficit.

“It happened mainly because the number of vulnerable people who need support is growing rapidly,” he explained.

According to Mr. Griffiths, the organisation’s divisions will need over $48bn this year. These funds should go to help more than 200 million people. However, over the past seven months of 2022, the UN managed to receive less than a third of the planned amount.

As noted in the organisation, the UN receives most of its funds from the United States, EU member states, some other European countries, Japan and Canada. At the moment, the UN is sending large sums to Ukraine, but citizens of Syria, Afghanistan, Libya and Myanmar also need help.
