Tribunal to investigate Poland’s crimes against refugees needed, political expert believes

In his talk with Alfa Radio, political expert Aleksei Dzermant suggested an idea of establishing our own tribunal to investigate Poland’s crimes against refugees

At a recent press conference, Polish soldier Emil Czeczko shared the details of the atrocities on the Belarus-Poland border. Mr. Dzermant commented, “After his statements, The Hague Tribunal accepted an application to investigate Poles’ crimes against refugees. An important step has been made. If Czeczko’s words are verified and the crimes of Polish servicemen are confirmed, then this will significantly undermine the image of the European Union as a citadel of humanistic values, human rights and democracy. You understand that if this goes unpunished, then Poland and the EU have no moral right to claim authority in the field of human rights and standards of democracy.”

The expert added that he doubts whether The Hague Tribunal investigation will be developed in a proper way. “Should we rather turn to another form of investigation? For example, to establish our own tribunal – uniting Belarus, Russia, Syria, Iraq and Iran – and to independently investigate Poland's crimes against refugees. I have serious doubts that this will be realised at The Hague, since this is a political issue. If the truth comes out, then the top Polish leaders and the EU will be recognised as criminals. This will be a severe hurt to the whole of the European Union," Mr. Dzermant is convinced.
