Taiwan announced its withdrawal from Central American Parliament

The Taiwanese authorities announced their immediate withdrawal from the Central American Parliament (PARLACEN) after its deputies made a proposal to deprive the island of permanent observer status at the organisation and invite China in this status, TASS reports with reference to Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry

"We strongly protest. In order to protect sovereignty and dignity, it was decided to officially withdraw from the Central American Parliament right now,” the statement reads.

On August 21st, the meeting of the Central American Parliament approved China’s inclusion in PARLACEN as an observer state by a majority of votes.
