State Border Committee: Latvian border fence continues to kill animals

The Latvian border fence caused the death of a moose, whose corpse was found by Polotsk border guards on April 12th, two meters from the Belarusian-Latvian border – as reported by the State Border Committee in its Telegram channel

It is reported that the animal was able to cross into the territory of Belarus, but became entangled in a European thorn and died from its wounds. Representatives of the environmental institution of the Braslav Lakes National Park arrived at the scene of the incident.

According to the Belarusian border department, this is the tenth death of the animal on the Belarusian-Latvian border since the installation of the barrier. In total, since September 2021, the border fences of Poland, Lithuania and Latvia have caused the death of 39 wild animals.

“The EU authorities are hushing up information about such cases in order to hide the environmental damage from the installation of barriers,” the State Border Committee of Belarus noted.
