Scientists from Russia created Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease inhibitor

Specialists from Mari State University, as part of an international team, have developed an innovative compound capable of combating a dangerous process of cell suppression known as ferroptosis, RIA Novosti reports

It is noted that this discovery could be a breakthrough in the treatment of Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases. The peculiarity of the new substance is that it effectively suppresses ferroptosis without having a toxic effect on living cells. Unlike existing compounds, it safely protects mitochondria: the energy stations of cells.

The new compound has already been tested on cell lines in the study of isolated rat liver mitochondria, showing pronounced antioxidant properties.
