Scholz hopes for Beijing's influence on Moscow in Ukrainian issue
Berlin expects that China will play a special role in the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, and, in particular, Germany hopes that Beijing will be able to influence Moscow – as stated by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, RIA Novosti reports
At a joint press conference with the Premier of the State Council of China, Li Qiang, Mr. Scholz noted, “I have once again appealed to the Chinese Government with a request to influence Russia even more in this war."
The German Chancellor also called on the G20 states, including China, not to supply weapons to Moscow. Mr. Scholz recalled that, during his trip to Beijing back in November, he agreed with Chinese President Xi Jinping that threats and the use of nuclear weapons are unacceptable.
The Premier of the State Council, in turn, said that Beijing will adhere to the policy of openness and act as a ‘stabilising’ party in modern conditions of the changing world.
