Scholz confirmed refusal to supply Taurus missiles to Ukraine
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz confirmed the refusal to supply Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine and stressed that the transfer of such weapons is excluded, as it requires the participation of the German military, TASS reports
During a trip to the city of Sindelfingen in southwestern Germany, the politician called the discussion of possible deliveries of Taurus to Kyiv a ‘strange discussion’.
“It cannot be that they supply a combat system that has a very long range without thinking about how to exercise control over it. And if you want to control, and this is possible only in the case of the participation of the German military, then this [supply] is completely excluded," Olaf Scholz stressed. “I have stated this very clearly. I am the Chancellor, and therefore it is valid,” he added.
At the same time, the German Chancellor did not touch on the topic of the intercepted conversation between Bundeswehr officers, during which the possibility of a Taurus missile attack on the Crimean Bridge was discussed.
Olaf Scholz has repeatedly emphasised that he is against the supply of Taurus missiles to Ukraine. The Chancellor justifies his position by the danger that Germany may be involved in the conflict.
