Mr. Scholz believes it is possible to limit illegal migration with the help of comprehensive measures, “And I have not ever mentioned one important measure: we must finally deport on a large scale those who have no right to stay in Germany.”

The German Chancellor recalled that the country had already strengthened control at its border and informed Brussels about that. He also stated the need to view those seeking asylum as potential workers.

"We are strengthening the protection of the EU external borders so that fewer people can enter Europe. We have agreed on a new solidarity mechanism within the European Union: the countries of arrival register refugees, and not just let them into Germany. In return, they will be distributed throughout Europe as a sign of solidarity," Mr. Scholz added.

The German Chancellor expressed hope that the European Parliament will approve such a mechanism in the coming months.
