"According to the adopted law, two adults can now marry, regardless of their gender. 55 members of the Parliament voted for this decision, 34 were against. The law will come into force on January 1st, 2024," the statement reads.

The Parliament’s press service added that same-sex married couples in Estonia also have the right to adopt children. At the same time, according to the law, a child cannot have more than two parents. The rights and obligations in relation to a child belong primarily to biological parents.
