Russian MFA promised African countries to find solution to food problems

The completion of the grain deal caused problems with food supplies to African countries. In this regard, the Russian Foreign Ministry promised to find a solution at the summit in St. Petersburg, RIA Novosti reports.

The Russia-Africa Summit will consider issues of international food security and the stability of the fertiliser market.

“Of course, this will be a discussion with a proposal for a solution for African states so that they leave St. Petersburg with a clear understanding of how these problems will be solved,” said Oleg Ozerov, Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry and Head of the Secretariat of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum.

He stressed that there is an opportunity to come to an agreement in settling these issues. Several batches of fertilisers have already been shipped to Malawi and Kenya.

Ozerov separately noted that the situation with hunger on the African continent remains difficult, therefore, many representatives of Africa sent requests for gratuitous supplies of grain, “Yes, of course, there have been such requests. They are all brought together by the Foreign Ministry and sent to the Government. They are processed and decisions are made on them. It’s clear that this cannot happen all at once. But they have been accepted for work and will be implemented as far as possible.”

The Russia-Africa Economic Forum starts on July 27th and will last two days.
