Belarus and Russia will do everything necessary to ensure the military security of the Union State – as stated by the Deputy Defence Minister of Russia, Head of the Main Military-Political Directorate of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Army General Viktor Goremykin, at a plenary session of the 4th International Anti-Fascist Congress held in Minsk today, sb.by reports
As noted by Mr. Goremykin, our task today is to defend the Victory in the Great Patriotic War and actively oppose the attempts to rewrite the historical truth. “In the West, the USSR is now being excluded from the list of winners, often simply not mentioning the decisive role of the Red Army in defeating the Wehrmacht. This means that they are trying to steal victory not only from today's Russia, but also from Belarus, the republics of Transcaucasia, and Central Asia. In Eastern Europe and the Baltic States, it is declared at the state level that the USSR did not liberate the peoples of these countries from fascism, but occupied and enslaved them. This is evidence that Western political elites have forgotten the lessons of Nuremberg. Moreover, attempts to destroy and distort the memory of key, fateful events of the past are intensifying in the West,” he stated.
Mr. Goremykin added that the recognition of the genocide of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War is not a search for enemies of the past, but a way to convey to the whole world the realities of the events taking place then. “We are closely liaising with the Belarusian side in this direction. I believe that together we will continue to promote at the international level the need to recognise the crimes of the Third Reich as genocide of the Soviet people. We will not allow these atrocities to be forgotten. I am convinced that Belarus and Russia will continue to do everything necessary to ensure the military security of the Union State. Such large socio-political forums are an incentive to improve activities aimed at preserving historical memory and countering the falsification of the history of the Second World War,” he said.
