Poland to have no control over US nuclear weapons if deployed on its territory
Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said that Poland will not be able to control the US nuclear weapons if they are deployed on the territory of the country as part of the NATO Nuclear Sharing programme, TASS reports
Radoslaw Sikorski said it would be an illusion to believe that it’s possible to borrow nuclear weapons and gain control over them. He added that European countries ‘are still fully dependent on US guarantees in everything related to nuclear weapons’.
Earlier, Jacek Siewiera, the Head of the Polish National Security Bureau, declined to answer a question about whether Warsaw planned to conclude an agreement with Washington to host nuclear weapons within the framework of the corresponding NATO Nuclear Sharing programme, noting that NATO’s ‘nuclear umbrella’ also covers Poland.
