Peat production in Belarus growing

By now, Beltopgaz facilities have extracted two million tonnes of peat – as informed by Valery Kovalev, the Deputy General Director of the Beltopgaz State Production Enterprise

According to the official, peat extraction is progressing at a faster pace – being 34 percent higher than last year. During the same period in 2021, about 1.4m tonnes were extracted.

By now, around 90 percent of the planned volumes for 2022 have been mined. “To meet the needs of the domestic economy and to ensure supplies to foreign markets, about 2.3m tonnes of peat are planned to be extracted this season," Mr. Kovalev explained. “About one million tonnes of fuel briquettes and artificially dried milled peat, as well as 83,000 tonnes of bale peat and 58,500 tonnes of nutrient soils will be produced as a result.”

The mining season continues, and it will end in October – being crowned with a traditional festival: Peat Dozhinki.
