Ovsyanko: Belarus traditionally takes very balanced position on international platforms
This point of view was expressed by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Republic of Colombia, Nikolai Ovsyanko, during his talk with Belarus 1 TV channel
According to the diplomat, Belarus always treats all nations with respect.
“Belarus traditionally takes a very balanced and restrained position on all international platforms and in bilateral relations. It never interferes in the internal affairs of other states and respects all peoples, their traditions and customs, as well as the domestic and foreign policies of the countries,” noted Mr. Ovsyanko.
According to the Ambassador, the strength of the Belarusian diplomacy lies precisely in this.
“We are always ready to listen to the opponent, are able to correctly assess the situation and act in the interests of not only Belarus, but also in the interest of the international community, where we believe it is necessary. This can be especially seen on international platforms, e.g., at the UN, and in bilateral relations, which we are trying to develop while being directly in different countries. I would like to note that the embassy was opened in Colombia relatively recently, in 2019. Taking into account the pandemic, a more full-scale diplomatic mission was formed here in late 2020. During this time, we’ve managed to do quite a lot,” underlined Mr. Ovsyanko.
The diplomat recalled that a friendship group of Belarus-Colombia parliamentarians was established with the assistance of the embassy, and a memorandum of co-operation was signed between the culture ministries.
“Last year, for the first time in one of the largest centres of Bogota, a film was screened, created with the direct assistance of Belarusfilm Studio, entitled The Brest Fortress. This movie was a pretty big success. There were Colombians among the spectators,” he stated.
