According to the expert, Poles are well aware that their cities can become a legitimate target for the Russian military in the event of aggression.

“Poles are afraid of Russia, they are afraid to fight. They understand that Polish cities may become targets in the event of a direct collision. Look at the panic that emerged in Poland when a Ukrainian S-300 missile flew in and two citizens of the country were killed," Mr. Gigin noted.

The expert emphasised that the Polish authorities are beginning to provide less active military assistance to Ukraine due to their fear of Russia, “Look at how [Polish President Andrzej] Duda was fidgeting when he was told that Poland possesses F-16 aircraft, so it can supply them to Ukraine. They [Poles] say there are not so many of them – around 50 pieces, which is not enough even for themselves. We understand that planes can take off at this stage from airfields in Poland and Romania," Mr. Gigin said.

Earlier, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said his country is not going to be among the first to hand fighter jets over to Ukraine. According to him, this decision is due to the fact that Poland itself lacks such aircraft.
