Number of broadband Internet users in Belarus increased by 2.6%

Last year, fixed broadband subscriptions in Belarus rose by 2.6 percent compared to 2022 and as of January 1st, 2024, made up 3.209 million – as reported by the Communications and Informatisation Ministry

As of January 1st, 2024, the number of subscribers connected via GPON technology (digital passive optical networks) reached about 2.954 million (1.4 percent up against January 1st, 2023).

Last year, the width of the external channel for access to the Internet was increased by 31 percent and as of January 1st, 2024, stood at 3630Gbit/s. In order to modernise existing data networks to improve the quality and volume of services provided, work continued to connect subscribers using GPON technology, ensuring data transmission speeds of up to 100Mbit/s and higher.

In 2023, the number of IP television subscribers increased by 0.8 percent compared to the beginning of the year and amounted to 2.501 million subscribers. As of January 1st, 2024, the total number of cellular mobile telecommunications subscribers reached 11.757 thousand (0.1 percent down). The penetration rate of cellular mobile telecommunications in Belarus was 127.8 subscribers per 100 inhabitants.
