No to NATO – Yes to Peace rally held in Switzerland
About 200 people demonstrated against NATO and the EU in the capital of the Swiss Canton of Ticino, with the event being organised by the Communist Party of Switzerland, TASS reports
The demonstration under the slogan, No to NATO – Yes to Peace, took place in the square in Bellinzona, where even heavy rain didn’t deter the people. About 200 Swiss took part in the demonstration against the Swiss government’s rapprochement with NATO and the EU. According to a press release from the Swiss Communist Party, delegations from other Swiss cantons, including the Basel Labour Party and the Swiss Peace Movement from Zurich and Geneva, had come to Ticino to take part in the event.
It is also noted that the demonstrators are concerned about the risk of unleashing a world war on the European continent due to the transformation of the EU into an increasingly anti-democratic union that is involved in an arms race.
“The square in Bellinzona showed the tip of the iceberg: popular discontent is indeed growing despite the suffocating bellicose and Eurocentric propaganda and hatred of those who speak out to end NATO’s war against Russia, which is tragically being waged to the last Ukrainian,” the party’s press release reads.
