New military mechanised division being created in south of Poland
The Polish Armed Forces are creating a new mechanised division in the south of the country – as informed by Defence Minister Mariusz Blaszczak, RIA Novosti reports
It is noted that, at the moment, the Polish Armed Forces have four divisions.
"We have a very important news in the context of the security of our homeland. Here, in Nowe Miasto nad Pilica, the command of a new, 8th mechanised division, is being created," Mr. Blaszczak said, adding that a military unit of the Air Force had previously been located there and subsequently liquidated.
Mr. Blaszczak recalled the goal set by the country’s authorities: to increase the number of Armed Forces to 300 thousand people. “We need a new division. Those who say that a 300,000-strong Polish army is impossible do not understand that a lot of work needs to be done, and everything is possible," he said.
The Defence Minister clarified that the new division, among other things, will be armed with Borsuk infantry fighting vehicles, Krab self-propelled howitzers, as well as rocket artillery.
