Mezentsev: Union State single currency is not on agenda; the use of national currencies needs to be improved

The issue of a single currency within the Union State is not on the agenda, so it is necessary to improve the use of national currencies in the bilateral liaisons – as noted by State Secretary of the Union State Dmitry Mezentsev in his talk with Rossiya 24 TV channel

“Today an unprecedented level of mutual trade in national currencies has been achieved, and actually the issue of a single currency is not on the table,” said Dmitry Mezentsev. “The question is about improving trade turnover, improving the rules for the circulation of those results of industrial policy that made it possible to remove barriers, not create unnecessary competing industries, and form unified production chains. In previous years, a competitive environment of similar product groups was created, deliberately and unintentionally. Today it is assumed that we will fundamentally move away from this.”

Mezentsev recalled that at the last 29th meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State, the main directions for the implementation of the provisions of the Union State Treaty for 2024-2026 were signed. The document consists of 11 sections, also envisaging the formation of a unified macropolicy, a unified financial policy, and a single transport and energy market.

“The parties form a single energy market and present balanced approaches to the world. There is nothing like this either in the ‘five’ [in the EAEU] or in the CIS,” noted the State Secretary of the Union State.
