Media: NATO discusses the future without the US in case of Trump's victory
Prospects of Donald Trump's return to the White House revived discussions among NATO members about whether the alliance may survive after that, RIA Novosti reports with reference to The New York Times
It is noted that this is a ‘remarkable shift in thinking’. Just a year ago, there was a sense of ‘an emerging purpose and new unity prevailed in NATO, and many confidently predicted that Putin would flee’. But now, German officials are discussing the possible emergence of a new unstable and complex world, the publication points out. It is cited that some European countries want to increase their arms purchases from Washington in order to secure Trump's favour in the future, according to the NYT.
Earlier, Donald Trump stated that if elected to the presidential term, he would withdraw the US from NATO.
