It is reported that the package envisages the allocation of €12.5bn annually in the form of grants and loans. Thus, over four years the total amount will stand at €50bn.

According to the publication, the opportunity to review the decision on assistance to Ukraine will enable Hungary to put forward conditions for further support. EU leaders are trying to pressure Viktor Orban to reconsider his veto of aid to Ukraine before the EU summit scheduled for February 1st.

At the recent EU summit in Brussels, the Hungarian PM vetoed amendments to the EU budget for 2024-2027, proposing to look for extra-budgetary sources to provide assistance to Ukraine or settle this issue for a shorter term, e.g., for one year, and then analyse the situation and make a further decision.
