"Under the leadership of Krauss-Maffei Wegmann and Rheinmetall, a new main battle tank will be developed together with partners from Italy, Spain and Sweden," the publication reads.

The partner countries plan to apply for funding to the European Defence Fund, and the sum may reach hundreds of millions of Euros.

The new project became known amid reports that another joint German project to create an MGCS tank, which was to be developed together with France, is on the verge of collapse due to disagreements between the countries.
