Lukashenko taking part in meeting of Supreme State Council of the Union State in St. Petersburg

The President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, is taking part in a meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State in St. Petersburg today. Among the main issues on the agenda are the approval of a draft document on the main directions of implementation of the provisions of the Union State Treaty for the period of 2024-2026 and discussion of prospects for further development of Belarusian-Russian co-operation in various fields. The parties will also summarise the results of the implementation of the 2021-2023 main directions and 28 Union State programmes.

In November 2021, the Supreme State Council of the Union State adopted the main directions of implementation of the provisions of the Union State Treaty for the period of 2021-2023 and 28 Union State programmes detailing this activity. Over this time, the governments of the two countries have created five integrated information platforms, including on traceability and labelling of goods, transport, veterinary and phytosanitary control, harmonised currency and customs regulation, developed common rules for access to public procurement, and defined approaches to the formation of a unified industrial policy. In addition, measures are being taken to implement joint investment (import substitution) projects on the territory of the Union State.

The today’s agenda of the Supreme State Council meeting will also focus on the issues related to the programme of co-ordinated actions in the field of foreign policy, the sci-tech development strategy, the implementation of a unified industrial policy, the modernisation and development of railway infrastructure, and the development of the mass media of the Union State.

As it has been already reported, last Saturday, Aleksandr Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin took part in the opening ceremony of a memorial complex in memory of Soviet civilians – victims of the Nazi genocide during the Great Patriotic War in the Gatchina District, also attending a concert dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the breaking of the siege of Leningrad. On Sunday, the presidents communicated for a total of more than eight hours in a variety of formats, including one-on-one, over a working lunch and tea break, during joint events and relocations. Aleksandr Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin took part via video link in a ceremony to put a new wintering complex of the Vostok station in Antarctica into trial operation. They also visited the SKA Arena built last year and held bilateral talks in the evening at the Konstantinovsky Palace.
