Lukashenko: principle of social justice preserved as fundamental in our life

From the ideological and conceptual points of view, the Constitution of sovereign Belarus is the successor to the Constitution of the Socialist Soviet Republic of Belarus – a revolutionary, progressive and, most importantly, fair document, President Aleksandr Lukashenko stated at today’s meeting marking the 30th anniversary of the Constitution

The Head of State noted that in 1919, the natural resources of the native land were recognised as the property of the entire people – for the first time in world history, “It was the Soviet Constitution that – for the first time in history – outlawed the exploitation of people, thus protecting human life and dignity, regardless of ethnic origin, social status and religion. This is the principle of social justice, which was supported by all Soviet constitutions and which we have preserved as fundamental in our life.”

The President underlined that, speaking about the 1994 Constitution adopted by the Supreme Council, we must talk about borrowing the experience of the world’s advanced countries, “At that time, we were generally following the suit of advanced countries, copying them. Several decades later, we realised that there was no need to follow their example. We saw the true face of these countries, we saw their true ‘democracy’. Only a blind person does not see this. The most important attributes of a democratic system, such as the separation of powers, legality in the activities of state bodies, additional guarantees for the implementation of human rights and freedoms were all reflected in the text of our then Constitution.”
