Lukashenko: despite all efforts of the West, Belarus not been isolated in international arena

Despite all the efforts of the collective West, Belarus has not been isolated in the international arena – as noted by President Aleksandr Lukashenko during his today’s meeting with deputies of the House of Representatives and members of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the seventh convocation

Addressing the parliamentarians, the Head of State said, “You have significantly expanded international contacts, strengthening your positions in co-operation with parliamentarians of the Russian Federation and other EAEU countries. You have established contacts with colleagues from the Latin American, Far Eastern and African regions. You have made many new friends.”

The President emphasised the key point of the Parliament's international activities, “As part of the implementation of the foreign policy course, the parliamentarians' activities were aimed at defending national interests, promoting a peaceful, unifying agenda, and strengthening the image of Belarus as a reliable and predictable state. Despite all the efforts of the collective West, Belarus has not been isolated in the international arena. Moreover, the country's international position has even strengthened.” According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, his words could be well confirmed by the election of Belarusian deputies to the UN governing body: the Interparliamentary Union.

The Head of State noted that, during the period of activity of the seventh convocation of the Parliament, an active dialogue was maintained between the legislative bodies of Belarus and Russia, “Constant working contacts between the chamber heads of two countries’ parliaments contributed to the development of new directions and forms of interaction. The Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia focused on the issues of ensuring equal rights for citizens and business entities. The organisation of annual forums of the regions of Belarus and Russia – held under the auspices of our parliaments – has become a significant contribution to solving economic problems. Almost 600 co-operation agreements and commercial contracts worth almost $6.5bn were concluded at the forums held over the past decade.”

According to the President, traditionally constructive partnership was carried out within the framework of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation, “At the invitation of the National Assembly, a visiting meeting of the Council of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly was held in Minsk in May 2023.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that efforts were being stepped up to develop contacts with parliamentary structures of countries pursuing an independent foreign policy and respecting the right of other peoples to an independent path of development, “The proposals on the creation of parliamentary dimensions of the SCO and BRICS are timely and, I think, they are promising. It is also significant that the level of liaisons with the Chinese Parliament has increased to a high-level committee on co-operation between legislative bodies. The majority of the world's population lives in the countries with which we are friends, while their economies make up a significant part of global GDP. They represent huge markets for our technologies and products. A delegation has been formed in our Parliament for the first time to work in a new international structure established in 2021: Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network.”

At the same time, as emphasised by the Head of State, Belarusian parliamentarians continue to actively defend national interests in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, using any formal and informal reasons to convey the truth about Belarus to the citizens of Western countries.

“At the initiative of the deputies of the seventh convocation, informal meetings were held in Minsk with representatives of alternative political forces of Germany, Italy, Poland, and Portugal. The new MPs should not only preserve, but also multiply your achievements in the development of international relations,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.
