Lukashenko: Belarus, Ulyanovsk Region have opportunity to reach new level of co-operation

The current situation makes it possible for Belarus and the Ulyanovsk Region to reach a new level of co-operation – as stated by President Aleksandr Lukashenko during his today’s meeting with the Governor of the Ulyanovsk Region of Russia, Aleksei Russkikh

Welcoming the guest, Aleksandr Lukashenko said that – as a historian by education – he always has some associations in his thoughts about this or that region, “I always think that the Ulyanovsk Region is not ideologically alien to us. This region is [spiritually] close to us also because a man who stood at the origins of our common state was born and spent his first years of life there. I do not know how you feel about it, but I have a very reverent attitude. After all, history is history, and it must be respected – no matter what it was in the past.”

Aleksei Russkikh visited Belarus for the first time as Governor last summer. Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that the Russian partners then got acquainted with the Grodno Region, took an active part in the Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia, visited the Great Stone Industrial Park. During the current visit, the Russian guests have already visited the Brest Region and its Brest Fortress-Hero Memorial Complex, in addition to a number of enterprises.

“I am very interested in you visiting the west of Belarus and probably feeling that these are not someone else’s territories, but Belarusian. Belarusians live there now, and they will live there in the future,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

According to the Belarusian leader, Minsk and Ulyanovsk have already been liaising for decades. “Your region has always been distinguished by an initiative, creativity, attention to youth affairs. Importantly, you pay great attention to vulnerable groups, those who need support. We are now actively looking for new points of contact, taking into account the already accumulated potential. We are establishing strong interaction through co-operative ties, primarily in the production sector. The current situation gives us the opportunity to reach a new level of co-operation. All the necessary decisions have been taken at the level of the heads of state,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The current visit of the Ulyanovsk Region’s delegation has a very rich programme. The guests already visited the Brest Region and the Great Stone Industrial Park, where they signed an agreement on co-operation between the park administration and the Ulyanovsk port economic zone. On October 5th, Aleksei Russkikh is meeting with Belarus’ Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko, visiting Amkodor, Horizon, MTZ and Belkommunmash. The delegation participants will meet with the Minsk City Executive Committee’s leadership tomorrow, also visiting the Minsk Civil Aviation Plant and getting acquainted with the Integral exposition.
