Lappo: situation on the border is predictable and controllable

The situation on the state border of Belarus is predictable and controlled – as Anatoly Lappo, the Chairman of the State Border Committee, told journalists today after a meeting between the President and the security bloc’s leadership

“The border is a living organism, and the situation on the border in winter and summer is different,” said Anatoly Lappo. “If some areas are impassable and difficult to pass in winter, then in spring and summer they become bare. Of course, the Commander-in-Chief is interested in what measures we are taking in these areas. We reported to the Head of State what equipment we are getting and what has been done. As an example, last year, we formed one manoeuvre group in the Mozyr detachment. Now the situation is such that we are forced to form one more manoeuvre group in the Lida direction, and the second group, as a reserve, in the Brest direction. Maybe they will not be needed in autumn there. We will be moving them to other destinations. I want to assure that the situation on the border is predictable and controlled.”

As already reported, today the President has held a meeting with the leadership of the country’s security bloc dedicated to topical issues of ensuring security and law, as well as measures to protect the state border. The conversation was classified as ‘top secret’. At the beginning of the meeting, Aleksandr Lukashenko stated that the situation around Belarus is complicated, “Therefore, the Government and the security bloc were instructed to prepare serious measures at the border aiming to prevent various kinds of saboteurs from entering the territory of Belarus. Recently, such cases have become more frequent. Therefore, I would like to hear comprehensive proposals for counteraction.”
