Belarus and China have established the highest level of trust and co-operation, and this cannot be reconsidered, regardless of the geopolitical circumstances – as stated by Dmitry Krutoi, the Head of the Belarus President Administration, as he met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Belarus Zhang Wenchuan today, BelTA reports
The meeting took place on the eve of the Chinese New Year, the Spring Festival, and Mr. Krutoi addressed his warmest congratulations and wishes to the diplomat on this occasion. He stressed that the year 2025 was very eventful for Belarusian-Chinese relations, with a number of visits and significant events taking place, and that the planned dynamics should definitely be maintained in 2026 – much owing to the visits scheduled for this year at various levels, including the Government and the President Administration ones.
The course towards building strategic relations with China at the highest level was confirmed recently at a thematic meeting chaired by the President of Belarus. The issues of developing co-operation with China were discussed then. Mr. Krutoi emphasised that, following the results of the event, the Head of State gave instructions to responsible officials on specific projects.
He also stressed the highest level of trust and co-operation between Belarus and China. "Definitely, this is not subject to revision, regardless of any geopolitical circumstances. We are moving forward together, with our agenda in view. We are grateful to China for its full support in the political, economic, and investment sectors," Mr. Krutoi added.
The Ambassador of China, in turn, thanked for the opportunity to meet. He noted that, in 2025, despite the difficult international situation, Belarus, under the leadership of President Aleksandr Lukashenko, achieved stability and progress in development, while the welfare of the Belarusian people is constantly improving. "As a true friend, China is happy for the successes of our Belarusian friends. We are confident that, under the leadership of the esteemed President, you will achieve even greater success," Zhang Wenchuan said.
The diplomat recalled that, in January 2025, the Chinese President was among the first to send congratulations to Aleksandr Lukashenko on his victory in the Presidential election in Belarus. "In this way, we showed the whole world our determination to maintain comprehensive and close contacts with our Belarusian friends," he noted.
Speaking about trade and economic co-operation between the two countries, Zhang Wenchuan stressed that, according to the Chinese data, the total volume of trade in goods amounted to $8.8bn in 2025. "The figure would exceed $12bn, if services are added – and this is a new record,” he said. China remains Belarus' second-largest foreign trade partner (behind Russia), outstripping other countries by a significant margin. Various projects are being implemented to develop the relationship. In particular, the thematic years of industrial co-operation (2026-2027) have been launched, and the years of science and innovation (2024 and 2025) have been successfully completed.
