Hirokazu Matsuno said, “We carefully collect information about North Korea's actions, including in the military sphere, and analyse it. The development of North Korea's nuclear missile programme threatens the peace and stability of both Japan and the world community, and this is absolutely unacceptable.”

According to the Chief Cabinet Secretary, Japan will continue to monitor the situation, and will also co-operate with the international community – the United States and South Korea – and strive to comply with the UN Security Council resolution and denuclearisation of the DPRK.

Earlier, the media reported that the DPRK basic law now enshrines a policy of accelerated strengthening of nuclear forces, which are a guarantee of the country's rights to existence and development, as well as serve to contain war, protect peace and stability in the region and around the world. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un called this step a historic event, saying that the amendments act as ‘a powerful political weapon’.
