IMF Chief warns of US-China rivalry

Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund Kristalina Georgieva warned of risks to the global economy from the rivalry between China and the United States. According to her, the countries should not start a second cold war in our time, Reuters reports.

According to Ms. Georgieva, our world is becoming poorer and less secure. Therefore, China and the United States should engage in dialogue, and not be fenced off from each other.

“I lived through the first Cold War on the other side of the iron curtain. And to go in a second cold war for another generation is ... very irresponsible. It is important to think through actions and what they may generate as counter actions carefully,” she said.

Relations between the world’s two largest economies have escalated in recent years over issues such as tariffs, Taiwan, intellectual property and cybersecurity.
