“We have come to a common opinion that the Union is now experiencing a new stage of its development. This primarily involves the launch of new joint projects that will create added value for all EAEU member states,” Mr. Golovchenko said.

According to the Belarusian Prime Minister, previously, the issues of ensuring the four freedoms were discussed, but there is now an understanding of the need to move from removing barriers to creating a new product.

“All EAEU members are not protected against external pressure and illegitimate competition. Their own economic independence is an effective response tool. Accordingly, it is necessary to implement new economic products and reduce dependence on foreign imports,” Mr. Golovchenko stressed.

The Prime Minister added that the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council session agenda was diverse – including tariff regulation issues and implementation of joint projects. “The meeting was quite eventful – as is traditional. It is not easy to co-ordinate positions. Meanwhile, this is an art of finding compromises in order for the Union to develop harmoniously,” he said.

Mr. Golovchenko noted also that the year 2021 was not easy for anyone. However, the domestic trade rose by a third last year, ‘and the foreign trade increased even more – by over 60 percent’. “The volume of mutual trade made $72bn,” the Prime Minister of Belarus added.
