During a meeting of the Presidium of the Council of Ministers which focused on present development of the transport sphere and plans for 2022, Mr. Golovchenko stated, “For the second year now, the transport sector has been operating in difficult conditions – related to the epidemiological situation and certain external factors. Nevertheless, the transport complex steadily meets the main indicators of socio-economic development, including consolidated key indicators of state programmes.”

The Prime Minister added that transport related foreign economic activity is of particular importance for the country. “Transport services continue to be one of the main sources of foreign currency inflow to the Republic, while generating over 40 percent of the total volume of exports of services and the positive balance of foreign trade in services. Exports of transport services are a key performance indicator of the Ministry of Transport and Communications. From January-August, it reached 119 percent against the same period last year. The positive dynamics must be further increased,” he said.

At the same time, according to Mr. Golovchenko, some topical issues need special attention. “We all know that the aviation industry operates in difficult conditions – which is due to illegitimate restrictions imposed on the Belavia National Airline and other Belarusian air carriers. Nevertheless, the situation in the aviation sector remains stable. Moreover, the results of the industry's work over nine months demonstrate its sustainable and profitable functioning,” he explained.

The Prime Minister proposed the meeting participants to discuss other topics as well, “These primarily refer to ensuring Belarusian shippers’ needs in transportation of goods by rail; functioning of the sphere of socially significant passenger transportation in regular traffic; development of water transport and increase of its efficiency and competitiveness.”

The Presidium of the Council of Ministers also focused on implementation of investment projects in the transport industry, maintenance and renewal of rolling stock, and development of transportation infrastructure, paying special attention to the Belarusian Railway.
