Gigin: Polish security forces infected with nationalist and even neo-Nazi views

The security forces of Poland are infected with nationalist and even neo-Nazi views, but the civil society of our neighbouring country rejects these ideas – as stated by Director General of Belarus’ National Library Vadim Gigin in his talk with Alfa Radio

Programme host Vadim Shepet noted that Polish border guards, through their official account, stated that they did not fire their service weapons at activists who appeared at the site of secret surveillance in connection with the search for persons who had illegally crossed the border. “If they write this and try to make excuses, does that mean something is really happening?” he asked.

“Polish society is changing,” stated the Director General of the National Library. “When parliamentary elections were held in Poland, both Poles, Americans, and our fugitives were very concerned that we intensified information work in the Polish direction, wondering if we expect Tusk to pursue a different policy. However, we don’t count on anyone and look at everything that happens from absolutely rational and realistic points of view. In no case do we see either Trump or Tusk as our ally or friend. We work with the society. We notice that Polish society is changing, we see that it is unhappy with the ruling elite. We see that there are a huge number of people in Polish society who criticise and oppose the xenophobic anti-migration policy pursued by official Warsaw. The popularity of these views among young people and the mood for normal co-operation with Belarus are also obvious. They may not accept our political regime, but at the same time there is a clear focus on economic co-operation, e.g., in the Podlaskie and Lublin voivodeships. We also understand this well.”

Vadim Gigin underlined that Polish society is heterogeneous, and the contradictions are becoming more and more apparent.

“Polish security forces are infected with nationalist and even neo-Nazi views. Everyone knows this very well, there were relevant publications, including in the Polish press, and the film was released. These security forces face a reaction from Polish civil society, and this is one of the indicators of changes in the social life of our neighbouring country,” summed up the expert.
