Feats and Destinies of Partisans in Documents exhibition opened in Moscow

On March 14th, the Feats and Destinies of Partisans in Documents exhibition opened in the Business and Cultural Complex of the Belarusian Embassy in Russia

The exposition displays unique photographs from the time of the Great Patriotic War, award lists and combat characteristics of both famous brigade commanders, Heroes of the Soviet Union, and ordinary soldiers of partisan units. Moreover, this exhibition also presents natives of the Russian regions: those born in Moscow, Leningrad, Tula, and many other cities.

The exhibition is to be on show for two years to mark the 80th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from the Nazi invaders and the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War.

Dmitry Zhuk, the Director – Editor-in-Chief of the Belarus Segodnya Publishing House, noted at the opening that the exhibits presented are only a small part of the Internet project, entitled Partisans of Belarus.

“To date, award lists, combat characteristics and other documents of almost 220 thousand partisans and underground fighters have been scanned. The main thing we do when creating such a project is that we record the truth about the war in documents. One of the goals set by our enemies was to take away our memory, especially to take away our memory that we are from among the winners,” said Dmitry Zhuk.

The presentation format of the Partisans of Belarus project has already been appreciated by residents of over 100 Belarusian cities. The organisers also have plans to show the exhibition in Russian regions.

“I hope that the administrations of the Russian constituent entities will respond and we will be able to show this project in the regions,” Dmitry Zhuk shared his plans.

The Feats and Destinies of Partisans in Documents exhibition is based on the materials from a unique Internet project of the Belarus Segodnya Publishing House and the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus – Partisans of Belarus (partizany.by) – as well as photographic materials from the Belarusian State Archives of Films, Photographs and Sound Recordings.
