Expert: Serbia was deprived of historical territories

The situation in the Balkan region is still very difficult, threatening a full-scale military confrontation. In his talk with sb.by, political expert Piotr Petrovsky speculated on the recent events in the Kosovo Region (Kosovo and Metohija), part of the territory of Serbia which Washington and Brussels recognised as an ‘independent state’, also sharing a view on why the West and NATO are trying to unleash a new round of confrontation between Serbia and Kosovo.

“Serbs and Albanians are shooting at each other again: several people were killed in Kosovo’s Banjska. Official Belgrade and Pristina blame each other for the tragedy, the situation is heating up. These events are an echo of the unresolved conflict about the non-recognition of the independence of Kosovo and Metohija by the Serbian authorities. Since the 1990s, NATO countries have been doing everything to humiliate the Serbian people, to impose some sense of guilt for the events of the collapse of Yugoslavia on them. Initially, the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia was destroyed, and Serbs are now landlocked. Later, Serbia was de facto deprived of its historical territories in Kosovo. Attempts are now being made to force the recognition of the independence of this region,” Mr. Petrovsky explained.

The United States, the United Kingdom and the European Union continue to put pressure on Serbia because of its position towards Russia and its desire to pursue a sovereign and independent policy.

It is also necessary not to forget about the special role of Kosovo for the West. This semi-recognised territory is a place of legalisation of dirty money, corruption, drug trafficking, the funds from which settle in the pockets of Western mafia elites. The loss of Kosovo is the loss of a grey and black economy scheme that has been a source of enrichment and has been operational for more than twenty years.

Belgrade actually has few opportunities to resist this Western machine, and it seems unwise to start a counter-terrorism operation in Kosovo – since it will simply lead to a war with NATO. Therefore, Serbs are trying to protest at the diplomatic level, to use international platforms and mechanisms. However, it is clear that their effectiveness is close to zero.

On September 1st-14th, 1995, Tomahawk cruise missiles attacked the targets in Bosnia during the civil war in Yugoslavia. The Bosnian Serbs’ positions were under NATO bombing, and the alliance’s aircraft made over three thousand sorties, dropping more than a thousand bombs on Serbs.

In March 1999, under the pretext of protecting the Kosovo Albanians, another NATO operation – Allied Force – began. For 78 days, the North Atlantic Alliance wad dropping bombs on Belgrade, Novi Sad, Nis and other Serbian cities, destroying the country's military and civilian infrastructure. Over three thousand people were killed during that ‘humanitarian intervention’ (two thirds of them were civilians). On April 14th, 1999, Belarus’ President Aleksandr Lukashenko made a historic visit to the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (which was bombed by NATO forces) and held talks with Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic.

The NATO aggression resulted in the collapse of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The alliance used military force to advance the geopolitical interests of the collective West by doing that.
