Expert: President of Belarus consistently pursuing foreign policy course

It is necessary to analyse and understand the strategy of the West, but at the same time, the development and implementation of one’s own line is paramount – as noted by Director General of the National Library of Belarus Vadim Gigin in his talk with Alfa Radio

“I know for sure that the US plan, when it dragged Russia into hostilities, made them inevitable, and created this situation for several years, failed,” he said. “Their calculations that we will have a revolution here, that the economy will collapse, have been nullified. Everything turned out the other way around. Their ‘cunning’ plan is a crisis of strategy. The European Union does remind me of a steam locomotive without brakes, where the driver does not know what to do, and – being afraid of stopping – constantly throws up coal. However, coal will run out sooner or later. And what lies ahead, they do not see because of the smoke, of the fog of war. This is a sad situation.”

At the same time, the expert stressed that Belarus, Russia should primarily think not about the West strategy, but about their own course. We need to develop and impose our own strategy.

“Look at how our President is consistently pursuing a foreign policy course at multiple level,” the political analyst underlined. Meetings of the recent time: the key meeting was with [Russian President] Vladimir Putin. Issues of tactical nuclear weapons are the security of our country and the Union State as a whole. As far as economy is concerned, the President notes that there are questions, but not problems. Quite recently, during a meeting with the Belarusian Ambassador to Russia, the President said that there are problems that need to be solved. So, during this time they were settled. At the regional level we see the expansion of co-operation with Russian regions, territories from Kaliningrad to Primorye. The President drew attention to the fact that we are not liaising properly with the Far East – and now interaction with the Primorsky Krai is being activated. Aleksandr Lukashenko’s main message during the CIS and CSTO meetings is: let’s be together, there is no need to go anywhere, in a crisis situation, the main thing is not to shy away, to understand one’s own interests. Politicians somewhere can show weakness, but there are public figures, security forces, people who must correct the line of politicians. There is a clear, consistent line.”
