Expert: Poland trying to incite Belarus into hysteria in order to portray it later as aggressor
In his talk with ONT TV channel, political scientist Piotr Petrovsky explained why the West should listen to the advice of the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko
“Belarusians have learned the lessons of modern war. We are prepared to cause unacceptable damage in case of an attack. What is behind this, what does it mean?” asked the TV host.
“Firstly, we will never retreat and will not give up an inch of our land to anyone. Secondly, our state is following the path of dialogue, not monologue. Take, e.g., Poland. We invited them to conduct joint exercises. How nervous they became? And then suddenly two senior Defence Ministry officials signed their resignations. We must understand that the modern militaristic orgy of Poland has two components. The first is pre-election, which refers to creating an image of the enemy, e.g., about importing various types of armoured vehicles into the country to frighten the population. The second component is an attempt by the Law and Justice (PiS) party to subjugate the army and establish a partyocracy. This is a special phenomenon for Poland, which does not exist anywhere else. The party took over the main economic, production and industrial concerns. It is PiS that places its people in the largest concerns in Poland. Now they do this in the army, using it for their political purposes. In this situation, as our President says, we are ready for dialogue. We act strategically, and it irritates them [Polish authorities]. They are trying to force us into a hysterical reaction by violating our borders and flying in their own helicopters, which they would use later in their information affairs. And then they would show that Belarusians are showing aggression towards Poland, being a source of danger for them. But this doesn’t work. We don’t play into their hands.”
Piotr Petrovsky also said that he does not agree with the opinion of experts who say that the Americans are aimed at military escalation in our region, “At the NATO summit in Vilnius, the Americans clearly promoted the thesis that NATO countries should not be involved in direct confrontation with countries that have nuclear weapons and on whose territory they are located. This is a ‘salute’ to those who said that tactical nuclear weapons do not work. Pay attention to how the Poles dramatically changed their tactics towards us. Instead of establishing an offensive contingent on the borders [with Belarus], they began to mine the Suwalki corridor. This is definitely defensive logic.”
