Expert on possible transfer of nuclear weapons to Britain: the world is moving to Cold War by leaps and bounds

Speaking about the plans of the US to move nuclear weapons to the UK at the Lakenheath airbase, the correspondent of the Vesti programme in London, Alexander Khabarov, told the Soloviev Live TV channel that the world is moving towards the resumption of the Cold War by leaps and bounds

Earlier, the Federation of American Scientists (FAS), citing the draft budget of the US Air Force for fiscal year 2024, reported that there is increasing evidence of the US intention to move its nuclear weapons to the UK. Specialists noted that a ‘safe storage room’ will be created at the Royal Air Force Lakenheath station in the UK, which is located about 100km from London.

“There is a feeling that the world is moving towards the resumption of the Cold War by leaps and bounds. Let me remind you that nuclear weapons were stored in the United Kingdom for 50 years. They were taken out of the UK in 2008. Now there is talk that nuclear weapons are returning. Moreover, two squadrons of fifth-generation American F-35 Lightning bombers should arrive in the UK by the end of the year,” said Alexander Khabarov.

According to the expert, all this confirms the American-centricity of the British Cabinet.

“The British Cabinet is ready to go even to the deployment [of nuclear weapons]. So far, this is being talked about theoretically, but if storage facilities are built, then this indicates a readiness to accept nuclear weapons. Thus, London becomes even more closely dependent on Washington,” Alexander Khabarov concluded.
