The Polish and Lithuanian authorities are pursuing an anti-Belarusian policy, which is aimed at discrimination against Belarusians – as noted by Vadim Gigin, the Director General of Belarus’ National Library, deputy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly and Chairman of the Belarusian Znanie Society, in his talk with Alfa Radio
According to the expert, the migration crisis at the borders is provoked primarily by Poland and Lithuania with the tacit support of the EU and the US.
“Recently, the National Library hosted an international conference on migration and the crisis on the border of Belarus and Poland. The event was organised under the Foreign Ministry leadership. Representatives of different countries attended the conference. It has convincingly proved there that this whole crisis was completely provoked, first of all, by Poland and Lithuania,” Mr. Gigin said.
The speaker drew attention to the fact that ideology based on racism, Islamophobia and xenophobia is spreading in neighbouring European countries, “This neoliberal ideology creates the prerequisites for neo-fascist tendencies that are actively developing in Polish society, especially among the security forces. All power structures of Poland are not just chauvinistic, they are precisely neo-fascist, with a clear ideological background.”
The deputy emphasised that the Polish and Lithuanian authorities are pursuing an anti-Belarusian policy aimed at discrimination against Belarus and its citizens, “Examples of violence against Belarusians, including fugitives in Poland and Lithuania, are part of a systemic policy. All this together led to the emergence of the migration crisis.”
Mr. Gigin stressed that for some time it was possible to maintain calm at the border thanks to co-operation between the border authorities of Belarus and the EU, “But why are we obliged to ensure the security of Europeans? They impose sanctions against Belarusians, throw mud at our people on propaganda resources. And now Belarus has to spend its taxpayers’ money to curb the flow of migrants? Who do they think we are? We’re not doing anything on purpose. Our country simply does not do the work that it used to do under the agreement with the EU. Migrants go to Europeans, not Belarusians.”
According to the political scientist, the migration crisis is also provoked by criminal groups operating on all routes: the Mediterranean, the Balkan and others.
“Mafia structures are operating everywhere. Who are in these groups? In the Balkans, it is the Kosovo Albanians. Who created Kosovo as an ‘independent’ state? These are Europeans and NATO. They themselves supported these mafiosi. Why doesn’t the European Union hold the Kosovo leadership accountable for its connivance in this matter? And there are criminal groups not far from Belarus, too. Who are in them? Afghans and Arabs, i.e. natives of the countries where migrants come from, as well as Poles and Germans. There are no Belarusians in these structures.”
According to the expert, European security forces are being brutal, killing migrants to intimidate others and prevent migration to the European Union.
“In August 2021, one of Russia’s pro-Western activists, Yulia Latynina, formulated what should be done with migrants: put them in concentration camps, do not give them water and food so that others would not be tempted to go to the EU. The programme is being implemented in the West: it is a typical manifestation of neo-fascism,” Mr. Gigin summed up.
