Opinion: international law is more dead than alive today

International law is more dead than alive these days – as noted by Russian political expert Vladimir Avatkov in his talk with the Solovyov LIVE programme

“There are several conflicts raging in the world. We currently live in a very interesting and peculiar time when the system of international relations is transforming. Nothing will change until the elements of the international relations system of the future are neatly put together. Pandora's box is not fully open yet," the expert pointed out.

Mr. Avatkov stressed that all the norms of international law that have existed since the 1990s are being violated by the United States, “The country has intervened in most of the conflicts in the world, violating the norms of international law. It is now possible to assert that international law is more dead than alive. This has happened because someone was violating everything that could be violated.”

The expert added that the rules are in force for a certain number of years, “We had a system of international relations, but a strange transition is now observed. It is such as there is no big war, though it is actually in place as a combination of conflicts. If this transition is a success, then it will result into a new system of international relations. At the same time, it will take place only when not just Russia, but also most of the countries realise their responsibility for the fate of the world and humanity. Unfortunately, this is something that many of them lack judging by their bellicose statements; i.e. Europe says Russia must be defeated on the battlefield. In turn, what is happening in the Middle East is a mere lack of responsibility. To create a new system, we need to get prepared for it, but the world is currently in a state of destruction and confrontation.”
