EU may impose restrictions against some countries for re-exporting sanctioned goods to Russia

The European Union is discussing the possibility of imposing export restrictions on countries that re-export sanctioned products to the Russian Federation, TASS reports

According to The Financial Times, the European Commission has privately investigated a legal mechanism that would enable it to restrict sales of a small category of products to certain countries. It is noted that such a step would be ‘a significant escalation of the EU efforts to prevent circumvention of sanctions’ against the backdrop of months of attempts by Brussels and its allies to convince countries such as Turkiye and the UAE, as well as Central Asian states to take tougher measures to prevent Russia from circumventing Western sanctions.
