Estonian Defence Minister said his gas bills increased 15-fold

A difficult situation in the European energy market due to anti-Russian sanctions has led to a sharp increase in energy prices, with both businesses and ordinary citizens affected – as noted by Estonia’s Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur, Lenta.ru reports

Mr. Pevkur noted that inflation in the country is about 20 percent, also sharing his personal story: his gas bills had increased 15 times.

At the same time, Estonia does not intend to change its policy of supporting Ukraine. “The situation has improved a little. We are all paying a very high price for what happened, but this does not mean that we should succumb to blackmail and stop supporting Ukraine," Mr. Pevkur said. He added that Tallinn’s assistance to Kiev made about 30 percent of the annual defence budget of Estonia, or about 1 percent of the country's GDP.

Estonia is also engaged in training Ukrainian soldiers in various fields.
