EEC: EAEU-China relations are at unprecedented high level

On April 19th, a meeting of the joint commission on the implementation of the trade and economic co-operation agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the People's Republic of China was held in Beijing under the joint chairmanship of Member of the Board (Minister) for Trade of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Andrei Slepnev and Vice Minister of Commerce of the People's Republic of China Li Fei, sb.by reports with reference to the EEC press service

The parties highly appreciated the work carried out in 2023 on the implementation of the agreement.

The realisation of the roadmap for the development of trade and economic co-operation between the EAEU and the People's Republic of China, approved at the last meeting, was reviewed in detail. The parties agreed on the early completion of work on signing agreements between Russian and Chinese railway carriers and their certification centres on organising international transportation using paperless technology, which will facilitate the development of digitalisation of transport corridors between the EAEU countries and the People's Republic of China.

The parties stressed the importance of continuing consultations on the climate agenda, the development strategies of the EAEU and China, market protection, and e-commerce measures provided for in the provisions of the roadmap. They noted the development of regular dialogue in public procurement and inter-exchange co-operation.

In addition, the joint commission discussed the results and further steps to expand co-operation in the areas of technical regulation, application of sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) measures, customs, and sectoral co-operation. The intention to contribute to the development of the Eurasian Agroexpress project aimed at accelerated transportation of food products from the EAEU to China by railway was also noted.

“Currently, relations between the EAEU countries and the People's Republic of China are at an unprecedented high level, which is confirmed by the data on the growth of trade turnover. In 2023, this figure increased by almost a quarter compared to 2022. I am sure that next year, in addition to the traditional issues on trade facilitation, as well as new directions on climate and e-commerce, we will discuss other areas of deepening co-operation identified by the results of a joint study conducted by the scientific circles of the EAEU and the People's Republic of China on the prospects for the development of trade and economic co-operation,” Andrei Slepnev said.

The EEC Minister also visited the headquarters of the China State Railway Group Co., Ltd., where consultations were held with its General Manager Guo Zhuxue, and met with the heads of diplomatic missions of the EAEU member states.
