EEC delegation discussed logistics hub opening in UAE

As part of the visit of the Director of the Eurasian Economic Commission’s Trade Policy Department, Vladimir Serpikov, to the United Arab Emirates, a meeting was held with a delegation of UAE business circles headed by the Vice-President of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce, Hassan Al Hashimi. As reported by the EEC, the parties exchanged views on the prospects for expanding co-operation between the EAEU member states and the Middle Eastern country.

Mr. Serpikov elaborated on the issues of strengthening co-operation between the EAEU and the UAE. In particular, the parties discussed the development of the North-South international transport corridor. It was also proposed to consider the possibility of the UAE’s joining the Eurasian Agroexpress project.

“Implementation of such projects will make it possible to switch to a comprehensive digital technology for transportation of goods by rail using electronic transport and shipping documents, which, in turn, will help cut the delivery time and eliminate administrative barriers to trade,” the EEC stressed.

"We see a significant potential for creating – if the Emirati side is interested – a distribution network and a transport hub in the UAE that will expand the trade of the EAEU states with the countries of the Middle East region, and also Africa in the future,” Mr. Serpikov said.

Hassan Al Hashimi confirmed his interest in expanding comprehensive co-operation with the EAEU countries, including on the above-mentioned issues. He also informed about the intention to open a representative office of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce in Moscow in the near future and expressed gratitude for the invitation to participate in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which will be held on June 14th-17th.
