The participants of the meeting paid special attention to the strengthening of interregional trade and economic co-operation between the two countries, including the partnership interaction of the Grodno Region and Hainan Province.

“The Grodno Region is twinned with China’s Hainan Province, the agreement on the establishment of twinning relations and trade-economic, scientific-technical, and cultural co-operation was signed in 2020. We sincerely hope for active and effective co-operation with Hainan Province,” Andrei Kartun noted.

The First Deputy Economy Minister added that Belarus is the mainstay of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

“Our country is implementing the largest joint co-operation project – the Great Stone China-Belarus Industrial Park. Currently, the park has 130 registered residents from 14 countries with a total announced investment of about $1.5bn and plans to create about 15,000 new jobs. Belarus expects Hainan enterprises to come to the Great Stone as residents and implement large-scale high-tech projects,” Mr. Kartun stressed.

The Chinese side noted its interest in co-operation within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, the development of Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP), and the use of its infrastructure to promote trade and economic ties between Belarus and China.
