During the meeting of the presidents of the Visegrad Group (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland), the Czech leader said, “Not only the Czech Republic, but also NATO perceive Russia as the number one threat in Europe, and this implies the need to realistically prepare for such a threat. All armies take it seriously, all armies are preparing for the possibility of a high-intensity conflict in Europe.”

A few days earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated that the military bloc does not see any immediate military threat from the Russian side against the member countries of the alliance. The Russian Foreign Ministry had previously talked about Moscow's readiness for dialogue with NATO, but only on an equal basis, while Western states should abandon the course of militarisation of the continent, which is being implemented on an unprecedented scale.
