Dushanbe has hosted a conference organised by the UN Office for Counter-Terrorism, the Tajikistan Government, the Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, the OSCE and the EU.

In his speech at the conference, Stanislav Zas stated that the CSTO actively supports international initiatives to strengthen border security to combat terrorism by curbing the flow of foreign terrorist fighters across borders.

He also noted that the CSTO is satisfied with the development of collaboration in this area with the UN Counter-Terrorism Office, the UN Counter-Terrorism Centre, as well as the UN Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia under the Border Security and Management Programme and the Towards a Joint Action Plan project, implemented in accordance with the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy in Central Asia.

Moreover, Stanislav Zas stressed that the consolidation of efforts in ensuring collective security is a paramount task for the CSTO.

“At the same time, while noting the drastically changed situation in Afghanistan, which has led to the emergence of potential border problems, we clearly understand that the security of the region as a whole depends on preventing terrorists from crossing borders,” he said.
