Council of the Republic made a statement in connection with adoption of a resolution on Belarus by European Parliament

The Council of the Republic of Belarus’ National Assembly strongly condemns the adoption of another resolution concerning Belarus by the European Parliament, and it also categorically rejects all assessments of the situation in Belarus without exception

As the Council of the Republic indicates in its Telegram channel, this move is nothing more than an undisguised interference in the internal affairs of Belarus, a violation of the inalienable right of the Belarusian people to independently determine their fate.

“The decision approved by the European Parliament directly contradicts the United Nations’ Charter and the principles of international law. Through pressure on our country on political platforms, sanctions blackmail, information and psychological terror, a misanthropic policy bordering on extreme nationalism is being promoted," the Council of the Republic noted.

“The inconsistency and illegitimacy of the decisions made on the basis of outright lies and dirt poured on Belarus by fugitive traitors who cynically trade in national security and the well-being of our country and people are obvious. Any collaboration with these criminals shows absolute ignorance of the real life of Belarus and is obviously doomed to failure," the message reads. “We do not need moralising from the outside, since we independently know how to live. Belarus invariably follows the course of peacefulness, good-neighbourliness and creativity. Our country is developing according to laws that fully meet the fundamental interests of the Belarusian people with respect for all those who are open to constructive dialogue with us, and it has the right to expect the same from others.”

The Council of the Republic stressed that the desire of Western functionaries to disguise their mistakes in the management of their countries is counterproductive and futile. “Europeans will inevitably see the light. Once prosperous Europe is gripped by serious socio-economic problems in the current conditions, and its population is taking to the streets to defend their rights and prevent the European continent from sliding into a full-scale war. Everything that is happening in the world today is an echo of revanchist politics. Due to the ambitions of the supporters of this policy, humanity is facing unprecedented challenges of global instability and uncertainty," the message reads.

The Council of the Republic called on parliamentary structures, the United Nations, the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the International Labour Organisation and other international organisations, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the UN Human Rights Council to ignore the politicised, untenable opinion of the European Parliament regarding Belarus, to promote the development of truly friendly relations and co-operation between states.

“The Council of the Republic of Belarus’ National Assembly confirms its firm determination to counteract any attempts to encroach on the sovereignty and independence of Belarus, to interfere in its internal affairs, as well as political, economic and other pressure on our country. No one, except the Belarusian people, has the right to decide how we should live and develop, and what laws we should be guided by in our native land," the statement reads.
