Borrell: European defence industry not ready for possible threats
The Ukrainian conflict has shown that the European defence industry is not ready for possible threats – as stated by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, RIA Novosti reports
Mr. Borrell noted that the EU should ‘arm Ukraine with the necessary means’, but this process should be accompanied by ‘a revival of the European defence industry’, since it is designed for peacetime and is not ready for possible threats. According to the official, the production capacity of the European Union should increase significantly.
Commenting on the supply of weapons to Kiev, the head of the European diplomacy shared the opinion that the EU often delayed sending aid. Mr. Borrell added that the European Union should ‘do whatever it is necessary’ to achieve victory over Russia.
