“An initiative to introduce amendments was expressed in the deputies’ appeal to the Head of State on the need to amend the current Constitution and introduce a single voting day. The initiative matured as a result of dialogue platforms, citizens’ appeals and written requests,” Mr. Sivets noted.

According to the official, a single voting day will be convenient for voters and beneficial for the state from a financial point of view, since any electoral campaign is costly.

“The President supported the initiative which was further formalised during the spring session. On June 25th, a draft law on amendments to the Constitution was adopted. In line with the document, a single voting day was introduced and, accordingly, the powers of deputies of local councils were extended until the elections to the National Assembly of the eighth convocation,” Mr. Sivets added.

Due to the requirements of Article 138 of the Constitution stipulating the need to two-time review draft amendments and additions to the Constitution with an interval of at least 3 months between these studies, parliamentarians once again thoroughly reviewed the proposed innovations and discussed them during meetings with citizens.
